At first, I was trying to reconfigure the headline if it released in the past, but I don’t see the point. lol. Then I moved on to another direction. The second option was croping the image and using another paper to cover them but I can’t make it properly so it ended up on the paper waste bin. I moved again to another direction, I use another paper to block out the headline so it has a new narrative. But I don’t think it makes sense. Then I moved to another direction, I created satirical newspaper parodies to criticize how the newspaper used unrelated images and text that I interpreted as framing. I don’t know if it works or not–yet. So, the first thing I did is analyzing the newspaper hierarchy, cataloguing the grid system to learn their layouts. Then, I continue to do some trial and errors.

The crop/block version could make sense more than the parody one. Try to manipulate in cropping, make multiple version. How is it designed. How is it when you blocked some things, you can make another meanings. Thinking about placement or the content of it. Play with expectation.”

I liked the parody one, it is like the cheese truth. I saw people made some videos by throwing cheese on the opened book, and read what words are in the circle of the cheese. Lol.”

I agree with Houman. The cover up version might work. Maybe you can make more series and see how it goes .”

Some of the iterations I made in the first week, I chose collage as the method and newspaper as a topic. I made some of the iterations using a chart that hopefully helps me in deciding what story to be generated on my collages. So I gathered headline–or highlight event in my country in a decade. But I ended up only using 20 of them, and the rest are just random meaningless collages.”

Honestly the more I am making it, the more meaningless it is. At some point, I feel sick of it–making collages out of the same headlines. Keep seeing the same images for 3 days. I do not know what I was doing, I thought of changing direction but I do not know what to do–yet.“

Some feedback I got is, yes, my collages are meaningless and I need to do something about it so it is meaningful.

In the middle of confusion, I decided to have the Office Hour™ (hopefully it has a longer time in the future hahah). It was an advice from Andrew which I hardly can understand because maybe he has no idea what I was doing in the first week and I am bad at choosing words to elaborate my mind. But, thank you for giving references– I found another references by searching with your reference keyword.”

Rather than thinking about what I have to do for this assignment,I ended up spend my weekend in Brighton (lol) visiting Brighton Illustration fair and accidentally hiking the Seven Sister cliffs while fasting. It supposed to clear my mind–which currently insane at that moment. Few days before deadline, I came up with several ideas which I can continue on the next post~
